[youtube id=DzntOqIRD0c] Trailer debut: July 30th 2019 Original release: September 27th 2019 New release: March 13th 2020 Difference: 169 days Between trailer and release: 228 days Reasons: Pulled off the release schedule shortly after its trailer launched after mass controversy regarding its plot, including criticisms from Fox News and the president whose supporters the film is a deliberate slam against, who described it (rather than himself) as "racist at the highest level". Rescheduled on February 11th, with marketing addressing the delay and said controversy from those who had not seen it; a rarity for a film's marketing campaign. Benefits: Good on Universal for giving in eventually, especially now that Trump has been acquitted. Flaws: It was still an act of cowardice to pull it off the schedule just because Trump was angry about it. To make matters worse, the final release date just so happened to be the last Friday that cinemas were still open before the coronavirus lockdown. As a result, the film was among the Universal releases that would recieve a $19.99 early rental period on VOD platforms one week after its theatrical release.
