NOTES: 2004 WB re-release, distributed here by Soda Pictures, preceded by the 15 rating card from its original UK release. Mostly clean up until its final three reels, in which faint pink lines and a prominent black and green line on the left overlay the picture.

NOTES: Opened on a rare, unofficial U classification card. First reel had focus issues, so the opening credits and the end of the reel where projected out of focus. The building of the Thunder Road faces sound system corruption issues, which are repeated in the reel in which Charlie begins his investigation up until the explorers take off into space. The bit in which the explorers name and christen the Thunder Road suffers from four cuts.

NOTES: This print is in an impressive condition for the most part, except a few cuts are present, a permanent green scratch appears at the bottom when Jim is driving in the rain and gets thinner with every following reel, and the absurd climax overwhelms the sound system. However, when Thurston is giving Donnie some advice at the bar, the brightness shoots halfway down and remains that way for the rest of the reel. I suspected the bulb in the projector had suddenly dimmed, then had a feeling that the next reel would lighten up the film again, and I still reacted like this when the next reel opened on Stanley reciting Carmen in overwhelming brightness compared to the preceding shot of Jimmy.

NOTES: 2000 BFI print โ its first legal release in the UK. Presented on a print that plays just fine but looks heavily worn out, which is arguably the ideal way to experience this film. A brief sequence of frames during the scene outside the mansion has taken a hint of water damage, a shot of the Duke during the wedding scene briefly dips to black, and before the reel in which Signora tells the story of shit eating nears its end, the film takes some prominent damage as she describes eating faeces.

NOTES: Screened for the Christopher Nolan season. Also played without fault though experienced even more dust getting stuck to the projector than the last screening, including those specks that as a child I thought were flies, and a couple of frames early on experienced significant damage.
