FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★★ NOTES: Most likely a US print since the subtitles were written in California, and it looks astonishing. The dust sometimes increases in size for several seconds, particularly when the film flashes back to Jen Yu’s first encounter with Dark Cloud and when she loses her first fight with him, but despite that and a slight technical glitch at one spoilery point, the rest of the dust was minuscule. It looked clear enough that it felt that you really were seeing it on release, and the changeovers showed no audible damage whatsoever. FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★ NOTES: Introduced by Hannah Strong, as part of the BFI’s Seen & Heard season. Would be nine stars if not for certain hiccups – including a hard cut while Marie’s room is being prepared, the third reel changing over a split-second late, a second of audio getting muffled by another frame slice when Marie is looking through her new hats and shoes, and another split-second of audio muffled when Marie is having her affair with Axel Fersen – but other than that, the print looks and sounds absolutely dazzling. FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★ NOTES: First three reels start off a little rough, very often marked twice on the left, but look relatively polished. However, the third reel ends on prominent damage when Hades sends the Titans to destroy Olympus, and thus the fourth reel is very heavily scratchy and dusty, with numerous cuts including “if he gets out of there” trimmed down to “if he’s out of there”. No, it doesn’t end on Hades’ post-credit bit and it cuts off before the Disney logo could flash. Yes, we did get Boyzone’s ‘Shooting Star’, to which a fellow autist took much satisfaction from.
