NOTES: Screened on the closing night of the Open City Documentary Festival, introduced by film essayist Erika Balsom. Scratchy as one may expect, many lines, dangling specks of dust and patches of filth throughout, though not enough to completely deteriorate the imagery. Serious damage on the first minute, some mild but prominent damage occurred midway through the second sky and a hair stuck to the left of the projector midway through the ninth sky, temporarily gathering specks of dust from that point. All this added an extra layer to the experience, to not just observe the transforming skies but the art of celluloid imperfections. At its most potent, the film grain caused a ripple effect so much as to give the impression of looking down, as if the sky was reflected by a stream of water rained down upon.

NOTES: The changeovers have seen better days and the angle of which it was projected cut the tips off many heads, but prominent dust aside this is a crisp, top-quality print. In fact, it is a pre-captioned print from France, starting with the BAC Distribution logo and ending on interpreter credits. The cinema once again screened the Licorice Pizza trailer in place of the digital trailer reel, to much applause.

NOTES: Not much to say about the printโs quality other than looking dusty but clear, but this was a more special presentation than any of us had signed up for - least of all me, given that I suggested that it be included in the PCCโs crime film strand - as before the print we ended up one of the first few audiences in the world to be treated to a 35mm trailer for Paul Thomas Andersonโs Licorice Pizza, per request of the director himself.
