Possessor
SCREENING: Regular DATE: December 14th CINEMA: Curzon LOCATION: Soho LOCATION: First watched on BFI Player as part of LFF. Initially booked a screening for the 29th at the Prince Charles, but as it turned out London would be under Tier 3 lockdown by then, I decided to move it to this cinema on this day.

Die Hard (1988)
FORMAT: 70mm CONDITION: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… NOTES: For the most part, it did not look like a problematic print. It looked impressive, but some splicing and audio distortion issues come into play around the time John meets Holly post-divorce. A slightly thick black line hung for several minutes in the third reel but after that, there were very few notable issues, except for a green โ€˜IIโ€™ that appeared at the right of the screen during McClane and Gruberโ€™s final confrontation and lasted throughout the rest of the ending. However, just as two of the terrorists were about to be blown up, the projector light went dark, and faded out before the explosion, obscuring the whole thing before being turned back on. At least it wasnโ€™t the more iconic explosion scene but that was still unfair timing. DATE: December 13th 2020 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End

The Magnificent Ambersons
FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ NOTES: 1997 BFI reissue. Many noticeable damages mainly through splicing, most prominent in the first and second reels. The second reel commended around five frames late, starting with a black screen and ending with an overlap. Changeovers included purple marker etchings, crosses, cigarette burns and rings, but appeared to have been timed at the exact original points. DATE: December 13th 2020 CINEMA: BFI LOCATION: Southbank

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ NOTES: A polished, crisp and vivid-looking print. Only flaw of note is the two changeover-like slices that appear around one minute before and after the changeover that occurs when Mayor MayWho attempts to propose to Martha May. DATE: December 6th 2020 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End
