Max the Movie Guy added 1 item to Films I've seen on celluloid in the digital era list
FORMAT: 35mm
CONDITION: ★★★★½
NOTES: A recently-discovered 35mm print likely to have been produced in the early 2000’s, opening Prince Charles’ year-long Studio Ghibli Forever season for 2020. The changeovers noticeably cut off one second of footage and audio, but overall a gorgeous-looking print.

Max the Movie Guy added 1 item to Movies according to my dreams list
A repertory cinema far away in London was slated to screen this film from a 35mm print. I was curious, so I just walked right in there. Not a full crowd. Still, the print I got was clean, except first I was treated to a 7-minute recap starring, of all characters, Danny from Cats Don't Dance, who is inserted into random scenes from the film and in an American neighbourhood, in some of those scenes not looking like his usual self but like an alley cat complete with bulging yellow eyes. He is last seen flying into the night sky aboard Marahute, and the recap ended. Turns out, however, that the cinema thought this would be the film they were screening, as this short was attached to a family action blockbuster from the early 90's named 'Mowgli III', which seemed to adapt characters from The Jungle Book, but only focused on Mowgli, a modern-day citizen, among a crew stranded on a boat in the middle of a storm.

FORMAT: 35mm
CONDITION: ★★★★
NOTES: Seen for free in exchange for my second Admit One card; I spent the former on The Muppet Christmas Carol. The changeovers were covered in dirt and the first reel went through a struggle, and during the opening credits was trying to keep in focus and not without softening the audio. From the moment Carol leaves the counter to a minute before the first changeover, the two right thirds of the frames were out of focus, but this surprisingly added symbolism to the scene where Therese is offered her new camera - only Therese is in clear focus while the men next to her are all blurred. Remember that the quality of this print does not indicate my overall experience, and to see a four-year-old print look like it had been preserved for twenty or fifteen felt magical to say the least.
