FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★½ NOTES: 2003 Janus print, presented with live piano accompaniment by Meg Morley as part of the BFI’s Ozu season. Some shrinkage most noticeable in two of its reels. The first two reels were projected incredibly clearly, but afterwards projector A dropped focus and only the remaining reels projected through projector B were in perfect focus. Before the third reel we were offered another treat, in the form of a Japanese reel leader! DATE: September 9th 2023 CINEMA: BFI LOCATION: Southbank

SCREENING: Triple bill DATE: September 7th CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End NOTE: Part of a Wakaliwood triple bill that also included Bad Black and a preview of the documentary Once Upon a Time in Uganda. I couldn’t make it to the double bill as it clashed against FrightFest, so I attended this showing and left before the documentary, as I did not want to stay up too late and also wanted to take a parent to see its solo showing the following Sunday.
