FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★ NOTES: Presented as part of the BFI’s Judy Garland season, introduced with some context on Garland’s downward spiral as experienced by Dirk Bogarde’s nephew, Ulric van den Bogarde. Print was at its clearest midway through Jenny’s titular closing number, and the quality was for the most part surprisingly clean. A brownish tint throughout after the opening credits, and the only noticeable instance of a missing frame was during Jenny’s phone call with Matt. ‘By Myself’ was so red it practically drenched the room in blood. The screen disappeared for two seconds during even-numbered changeovers, and the projectionist’s hand was easily noticeable at the bottom-right corner, trying to adjust the projection in time for the final reel. SCREENING: XPlus Laser | The Gallery DATE: June 24th | July 12th CINEMA: Showcase Cinema de Lux LOCATION: Bluewater NOTE: My reappraisal viewing only cost me the booking fee, because Showcase accidentally listed a free Gallery seating option for Insiders when the bar and seats were refurbished and I wanted to put this feature to good use before they took that blunder down. Told the cinema’s manager about it and she kindly let me in anyway.
