SCREENING: FrightFest
DATE: August 29th
CINEMA: Cineworld
LOCATION: Leicester Square
NOTE: About two thirds of the audience ended up missing the beginning (me, a minute or two of inessential exposition at least), because although the volunteers advised us that the screen would open five or ten minutes before showtime, they started the show five minutes before advertised. A patron who also missed the beginning put it best; if you’re running a film festival, you have to consider that people are paying you money to see these films, and lots of it.

SCREENING: Q&A (Lili Villányi & Kevin Kopacka), FrightFest
DATE: August 28th
CINEMA: Cineworld
LOCATION: Leicester Square
NOTE: So…………funny thing about this Festival. When I rushed to book my tickets for this festival, I was not aware until a few weeks later that FrightFest would not permit social distancing in any screen following the objectively premature lifting of COVID restrictions. And I had spent a lot of money on those non-refundable tickets. I’d assumed too much about the FrightFest website, thinking they’d be careful enough as to at least enforce distancing measures if not mask mandates, and then that they’d require you to sign in with the NHS app when they only worded it in a way that sounds like they are required. Thankfully, the day before this screening, my cousin was volunteering for the festival, and we arranged to get myself into the two most conveniently timed Main Screen showings in my order, plus a screening of King Knight I hadn’t previously considered, reserving a special, socially distanced seat in these three screenings just for me so that not all my money went to waste. There were so many maskless people attending this specific film.
