Max the Movie Guy added 1 item to Films I've seen on celluloid in the digital era list
FORMAT: 35mm
CONDITION: ★★★★½
NOTES: BFI Technicolor print, introduced by Edgar Wright as part of the BFI’s Dream Palace season. The red and blue bleeds through most of the time in such a way that you’d feel tempted to put on some 3D glasses just to see how it would turn out, though around half of the shots would end with the colours bleeding out further, even more heavily in the first and second reels. First changeover was cued by lines drawn with a marker while the last two changeovers caused the first and last split second of the reels to overlap, and the first reel suffered from three subliminal black circles and the following two frames of a crowd after the first wide shot of Sister Clodagh ringing the bell are sliced diagonally. But the print earns this rating as despite these faults, the film looks truly astonishing this way, with the print’s minimal dust and striking colours. Kathleen Byron’s love-stricken face rarely looked so terrifying.

Two and a half years later…
FORMAT: 35mm nitrate
CONDITION: ★★★½
NOTES: An original Technicolor nitrate print, said to have been donated by Powell to the Academy, introduced by living cinema legend Thelma Schoonmaker. Flashes between shots are visible, as are the fairly unstable colours. Had undergone prolonged scratches over the years, and Sister Clodagh and Mr. Dean’s discussion about the children is drowned out by crackling sounds. However, the warm-toned colours have clearly endured, and in their current state they are an astonishing sight to behold.
