The Imaginary
SCREENING: Regular DATE: June 30th CINEMA: Curzon LOCATION: Aldgate NOTE: Went up to see this at Bloomsbury on opening day, still yet to fully recover, but everyone in the area had to evacuate because of a bomb scare. In the Waitrose of all places. Got my ticket exchanged for this showing, as I wanted another day at home. The screen was empty, which is kind of a surprise given that youโ€™d expect more people to notice this sort of film, but at least I could make as much noise as I wanted! Iโ€™d tested negative that morning, by the way.

An Angel on Oxford Street
Animated Display - The Wide Eyed Girl and the Long Legged Boy (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…) - [S] - An Angel on Oxford Street (โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ) - Flutz (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…) - 74 (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ) - The Brown Dog (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…) - Tennis, Oranges (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…) - Diary of an Illness (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ) - Flower Show (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…) - Minus Plus Multiply (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ) - Fracti (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…) - Now the Wolves Will Run (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…) - Homemaker (โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ) SCREENING: Q&A (Paul Shammasian, Ciara Kerr, Verity Drew Firth, Lavinia Petrache, Charalambos Margaritis, Mario Radev & Chu-Chieh Lee), Raindance Film Festival DATE: June 25th CINEMA: Genesis Cinema LOCATION: Bethnal Green NOTE: It wasnโ€™t until after this screening that I learned that this bad cold I was having was actually the new variant of Omicron, and so I had to cancel any plans I had the next couple of days, including another Raindance screening. Had to chance double-masking, talking as little as possible and going out on the Friday despite not having fully recovered, which surprisingly helped me recover easier than staying at home (where I was always focused on my stuffy chest) despite having to cough a couple of times during my stay up there. Not something I would want to do again if I ever caught the bug a third time.

Melancholia
FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ NOTES: The opening montage of nightmares undergoes plenty of dust and crackling sounds โ€“ which surprisingly heightens the apocalyptic terror โ€“ but apart from four hints of damage, the rest of the print looks just fine. It was hard for one to tell most of the time that it was an actual print, considering that it was mostly shot on digital handheld. DATE: June 24th 2024 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End

12 Angry Men
FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…ยฝ NOTES: Mid-2000โ€™s Park Circus print, and one of the more authentic ones. A few cuts and damaged frames and just one line of dialogue towards the end having lost some frames aside, it looks pretty great, except that every frame is well-worn at the bottom.
