FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★ NOTES: Another film I chose to watch at home first to try and reduce my trips out, but it invested me too much for me to turn the PCC screening down. Looks too good to not be an impressively well-preserved original print; the colours and clarity are stellar for a print of its age. FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★½ NOTES: Presented by Lost Reels, followed by a Zoom Q&A with director Atom Egoyan. The final two reels were entirely projected off-centre, so thank goodness I’d already watched this film on Blu-Ray a month ago. FORMAT: 15/70mm CONDITION: ★★★★★ NOTES: Took me over a month to get to this point, as the film projector broke on opening day. Could have seen it in better condition, as there were a few occasions when hairs get stuck to the screen and there was a noticeable white patch on one frame early on, but this is among the best-looking digitally shot films on celluloid. FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★ NOTES: Technicolor IB print of the Rankin-Bass dub, and despite being just five years younger than the former print it looks impressively preserved. It also suffers from significantly more trimmings than King Kong vs. Godzilla, going as far as to cut a line from Susan down to sound like she’s not just rejecting his offer to come along with her but rejecting a date, leaving the emotional blow Kong takes in the following shot feel even harder. It’s hilarious. Inevitably, the projector encountered a fault, seemingly because one of the reels hadn’t had two of its surviving frames spliced together. They got it back up and running several minutes later. DATE: April 2nd 2024 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End
