FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★½ NOTES: A tremendous National Archive print, a fundamental addition to the Scala season. Counted one instance when the audio would briefly drop, sounds great otherwise and looks absolutely terrific. A few frames during the long shot in which Alex is being tortured with the 9th Symphony had to be restored from a less clean print, due to damage in the negative. FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★½ NOTES: Another Scala highlight, introduced by former Scala cinema staffer Jane Giles and presented with a 35mm trailer for Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and a VHS transfer of Jo Menell’s aptly titled Scala favourite, Dick. Has very much faded over the years, in the sixth reel most of all, and stutters at the midpoint in the second reel. The projector was fighting for its life trying to get the first ten minutes of the film and the first two minutes of the third reel in focus. DATE: January 13th 2024 CINEMA: BFI LOCATION: Southbank
