FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★½ NOTES: 2006 Park Circus print. Blurry as one would expect from a remaster like this and changeovers are typically rough – though the one when Bickle sits in the adult cinema doing target practice magically doesn’t ruin the following line – but at their most prominent, the dust and scratches not to mention the warm, natural tint suit the film perfectly. The scenes of the New York lights look dreamy even with the remaster’s artificialities printed onto film. DATE: January 18th 2022 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End

FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★ NOTES: Uncut print; very scratchy and suffers some prominent ruin in several frames but looks staggeringly authentic, even though it could not possibly have come from any point in the 1970’s (its original changeovers are reprinted), and the playback is perfect. SCREENING: Regular DATE: January 14th CINEMA: Showcase Cinema de Lux LOCATION: Bluewater NOTE: First screening in the refurbished downstairs screens, in this case what used to be an IMAX yet was reverted to a regular screen but with recliner seats. The redevelopment shows when you’re sitting in the back row and the barrier blocks your view as you recline.
