SCREENING: Regular DATE: December 5th CINEMA: Picturehouse LOCATION: Greenwich NOTE: Meant to see this on Saturday, had no idea the DLR would be closed for engineering works and then the one bus from Lewisham we could count on to take us to Greenwich arrived twenty minutes late just to offload and halted service. I got a complimentary free ticket that I used for this showing. I love our transport system!

Eyes Wide Shut
FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★½ NOTES: Only one sliced frame closer to the end and even that doesn’t disrupt the flow of the film. Independence Day
Earth has become inhabited by an uprising of AI, and most surviving humans have successfully migrated to another planet. A space station overseeing Earth, whose captain is played by George Clooney, finds itself under attack by several of these machines, and so what they decide is the easiest way they can destroy these machines in such a way that they go barely noticed.........is to use a secretly located machine to turn themselves into sentient tangerines. Rolling, faceless, talking tangerines. Of course, not all of them survive, but three of them just about do, and learn that Clooney was responsible for the uprising all along. While he is out of his spaceship, observing the Earth, one tangerine manages to find the weapon that would destroy the planet once and for all, and she does. Clooney is left there, defeated, left to give an apple he'd kept on his desk one last look to realise why it had never aged - it is also a person the machine turned into a fruit - floating away into deep space. The surviving fruit is then seen in an escape pod, unable to transform back into people, wondering what they're going to do next.
