The Wizard of Oz
FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★ NOTES: A direct rip from an original negative, could have been the 1998 re-release. The colours and clarity are astonishing as they ought to be, but a lot of frames and snippets have been lost in time. Only one frame has been lost from ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, but “I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little…” has burned off. The odd-numbered reels are a natural bright tint while the even-numbered reels bear a golden tint that really brings out the yellow in the Yellow Brick Road. The audio has experienced numerous dips in volume or fidelity and some occasional buzzing; the first two reels are awfully quiet, and “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead” sounds unbearably corrupted, like it’s crying to be put out of its misery. Oz has looked better, but it sure has been in worse condition!
