Equinox Flower (1958)
FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★½ NOTES: Another 2003 Janus print, and it would seem from their logo that the print has undergone some fading and it isn’t just the negative used; there are several signs that the negative has endured some damage and not the print – which is still dusty – as a tear can be seen behind the captions and a couple of shots of Taniguchi and Hirayama in the bar were clearly sourced from a 16mm print, a sign that they must have been destroyed in the 35mm negative. Either way, this looks incredibly sharp and immersive on film. DATE: October 1st 2023 CINEMA: BFI LOCATION: Southbank
