FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★ NOTES: English dub, printed by the BFI for general release in 2003. Noticeably dusty half the time, changeovers are filthy and the first thing Kirikou says when he sneaks into the sorceress’ hut is cut down to “*gasp* -back to me.” Other than those flaws, the print looks dazzling, particularly during scenes set in the jungle and the paradise behind the hut. SCREENING: With intro (Phil Lord & Christopher Miller), Family Film Week DATE: October 29th CINEMA: Barbican Cinema Café LOCATION: Barbican NOTE: First seen not on Netflix but through an early livestream organised by Netflix. If you think me getting to see this as we were initially supposed to with my mother (who loved it), having a photo taken with the Clone High duo and receiving a signed poster that Mum had to carry all the way home in a size-appropriate plastic bag we collected from a nearby music shop was crazy enough, we had to spend weeks searching for a child we knew to come with us because of the families-only restrictions. But finally, after a friendly conversation through email with one of the managers, we were granted an exception. It’s the most miraculous thing that happened to me this year and I attended an entire prestigious film festival this same month.
