Max the Movie Guy added 1 item to My trips to the cinema 2022 list
SCREENING: Regular
DATE: September 4th
CINEMA: Barbican Cinema Café
LOCATION: Barbican
NOTE: Had spent a free ticket on Picturehouse Central’s first showing of The Assassination of Jesse James, and soon enough the aforementioned screening of Heavy Metal was unveiled so I had one bonus excuse to come up to London that day. It turned out to be my only excuse, when I discovered without checking my emails or noticing the sign on the way in that a fault with the projector meant the screening had to be switched to a digital master. I didn’t want to attend the showing on the following Sunday because engineering works were set to disrupt services to Charing Cross from my hometown. That day, at the very last minute, the staff learned that they couldn’t screen it on 35mm at this time either (and to make matters worse, the screen’s aircon broke), and I had boarded a Victoria train that was held up by a red signal three times and taken two tubes plus two lifts just to get to this cinema. Having planned to return to Central to see The Territory the next day, I decided to save myself from wasting another journey, return both of my tickets and go all the way over to the Barbican instead, which required two 12-minute walks and a tube from Tottenham Court Road.

NOTE: First watched virtually a year beforehand as part of Ottawa’s animation festival, and though I would have seen this again in a cinema either way due to my love of animation, OIAF’s virtual copy was special; Eventive’s visual compression is one thing, but the audio frequency was two decades out of date.

Max the Movie Guy added 1 item to Films I've seen on celluloid in the digital era list
FORMAT: 35mm
CONDITION: ★★★★
NOTES: Supplied by the Cinema Museum. Looks good, sounds great. First reel is consistently spotty, Sarah’s epiphany followed by nightmare is covered in dirt and scratches because of how close it comes to the end of the reel, and a few vertical lines trail down the final half hour.

Max the Movie Guy added 1 item to Films I've seen on celluloid in the digital era list
FORMAT: 35mm
CONDITION: ★★½
NOTES: A print from its original UK release that certainly shows its age, with excess wear, a brownish violet tint and reels that end several frames too soon. The audio, however, sounds terrific.
