NOTES: Despite some brief audio distortions in the first half-hour, this print mostly stands the test of time. Playback is also seamless. The international distribution credit is a noticeably different tint to the rest of the end credits.

NOTES: In anaglyph 3D as released, and you can tell why we moved on to digital 3D so shortly afterwards. A film with this many bright, flashy colours does not mesh with red and blue glasses; watch a slightly washed out 35mm print with those glasses on and you get mushy, grey porridge, like if Women Talking (a good movie) included a little extra purple and orange. The print is in tip-top condition as it should be, aside from one slice towards the epilogue and the same kind of right-side scratches as the Yi Yi print throughout.

NOTES: Screened as part of the Sight and Sound season, printed by the BFIโs National Archive as the National Film Archive. Very worn with two heavy cuts when Anju accompanies a dying Namiji, reels are presented with subtitles projected out of focus and/or with a warm or cool tint. But the print looks strikingly authentic, the picture sharper than most digital restorations; you can tell it was a direct, unfiltered reprint.
